The goal of the Westphalia Outreach Ministry is to serve God in as many ways as possible. We believe that serving God is a very important way for one to strengthen his/her relationship with Him. Our objectives are to: - Assist individuals and families inside and outside of Westphalia
- Become involved with the communities and schools surrounding the church
- Assist all Ministries in the church
- Introduce Westphalia UMC to as many new people as possible
The Outreach Ministry now has seven (7) official members. We are in the process of increasing that number of members to as many as we can. It is our belief that the entire church can participate in this Ministry. All church members will not have to actually join the Ministry and or attend meetings. You could serve by working on a single project, choosing your own project to work on, developing a new project that you want to administer alone, or just showing up to help. The Outreach Ministry has already suggested a universal project that the entire congregation can do. That project is to have each member to invite and assist at least two (2) new people to visit Westphalia within a six (6) month period. That is only one idea where the congregation can help as a whole. We are sure that many others can be submitted if individuals simply thought about it.
Some of our objectives are as follows: - Working with other Westphalia church Ministries:
- operating a welcome table, giving out cards, walking the community
- Shelters, Homeless, and Nursing Centers:
- providing dinner one day
- collecting toys and clothes for the children and mothers
- Reading to seniors at the nursing home
- Using vans to take seniors to the store or going for them
- Congregation Assistance book in the Fellowship Hall so that anyone can get information to share with others. Maybe also make a smaller packet to give to event visitors or the community.
- Advertising the church name in newspapers and on the religious radio stations. Give the congregation business cards so that they may give out these cards as they talk to new people.
- Restart the SHARE Food Network, which is a program that allows churches and other community groups to assist in helping people in need get food at a reduced cost. All participants in the program will receive $45 worth of healthy food for $19 every week as long as they donate two (2) hours of volunteer service each month.
- Have the congregation make telephone calls to the elderly and disabled. Members would call after being assigned a person.
- Ask each Westphalia Choir to commit to giving at least one concert a year at a hospital, senior citizen home, women’s or men’s shelter, or school.
- Talk to community leaders about setting up an occasional table in the front of their communities and give out free school supplies to get people to fill out our welcome card. The vans would be used as advertisement.
The Outreach Ministry is asking all who desire to strengthen their relationship with God to join us in our journey. We will use Bible Scripture to sustain us and to show us the way that God would have us go.
