On Saturday, June 13, 2009, Westphalia United Methodist Church’s Health and Welfare Ministry hosted a Health and Wellness Fair Event.
The event provided information for seniors, safety, nutrition and children’s health. The fair also helped spread the word about the National Institute of Health (NIH) Bone Marrow Program- a tremendous need for donors between the ages of 18-60 (particularly in the African American Community). The fair allowed NIH to sign up eight donors on Saturday.
Participants were also greeted by our friendly volunteer staff, and received health bags full of healthy snack options, general church information, and certificates for free health screenings at Southern Maryland Hospital.
Leisure fun activities were enjoyed by many, including chair massages from Nationally Certified Massage Therapist, face painting, and YMCA obstacle courses. The fair ended with a wonderful and informative presentation from Dr. Karl Finley, Endocrinologists and Director of Joslin Diabetes Center at Doctor’s Hospital.
The Health and Welfare Ministry would like to thank our Pastor, ministries and volunteers involved to make this year’s event successful, and look forward to next year! |
